2009

A pleasant full flavoured, but soft wine designed for the relaxed cafe society and for drinking on leisure occasions. The wine has plum and raspberry aromas and flavour and a vibrant berry finish of great intensity but the finish is soft.

Appearance

Rich ruby red.

Bouquet

Raspberries, red cherry and plums with mixed spice, with hints of leafiness, milk chocolate and smoky toast.

Palate

A soft rich balanced blend of strawberry, red cherry and blood plum fruit flavours, complemented by a cherry and creamy vanilla mid palate, and the end palate lingers with tantalizing mix of cinnamon and dark chocolate. This ripe, juicy and elegant blend of Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon finishes with crisp acid and firm tannins, leaving the palate clean, refreshed and looking for the next sip.

Winemaking

The Shiraz vineyards were harvested from mid February to the end of March, the Cabernet vineyards from the end of February till the end of March. Each vineyard batch was open fermented for 7 days on skins with reduced pump-overs to preserve the primary fruit flavours in the wine. The wine was then pressed off to complete fermentation in tank or old oak barrels. Most batches spend part of their maturation time in old French and American oak barrels. 77% Shiraz, 18% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% other varieties

This wine has been crafted for enjoyment now and will also improve over the next 24 months under good cellaring conditions.
